THE STORY BEHIND THE BRAND

I am a lifelong fitness enthusiast who was influenced at an early age by my mother who used to pump iron long before it was cool – for women! As I compared her to other people her age, it was obvious she was on to something! Thanks in part to my mom, as I’ve grown older, I have a huge appreciation for the benefits associated with an active, healthy lifestyle.

OUR NEEDS CHANGE AS WE AGE

I created Longevity Life Zone (LLZ), a platform to deliver fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle programs specific to the 40 and older age group. I realized the importance of this when I was following fitness programs designed for younger people who had different capabilities and health histories. My results were not optimal, and I was feeling sore and miserable much of the time. My nutritional needs were different too. When I ate like a 25-year-old, my 40+ body had a very different metabolic response. 

ADDITIONAL TOOLS TO SUPPORT THE 40+ JOURNEY

As I worked on my fitness and wellness programs, I decided to tackle another issue. Shopping for quality active wear was a challenge. I desired clothing that was comfortable, high-quality, attractive, and forgiving - in all the right places. Most athletic wear was designed for younger women and did nothing to disguise the common middle-aged rounded tummy, jiggly upper arms, widening hips and thighs. I remember thinking, how hard can it be to develop quality active wear that takes the aging body into consideration?

It took three years of research, design, and testing to produce the initial line of Kimeez athleisure wear. During this time, I unknowingly entered the realm of apparel entrepreneurship including overseeing manufacturing and owning a brand.

 IT TAKES A COMMUNITY

I collaborated with FABRIC a comprehensive incubator for fashion brands in Tempe, Arizona. Their mission is to simplify and make owning a brand, and producing clothing, more accessible and less daunting.

I followed their roadmap which guided me through the process of startup, branding, development, and domestic small-batch manufacturing (yes, Kimeez is designed and manufactured in the USA!), and marketing. I also purchased a lot of one-on-one consulting services!

Kimeez, initial, limited release, which includes multiple styles of activewear tee shirts for women, is scheduled for Summer 2024. Future plans include more tops, leggings and clothing for the 40+ man.
